Lenten Liturgical Feast

This year for our Lenten Feast, we took the kids in the sanctuary and did the Stations of the Cross.

Then we went back to the classrooms and had a passion meal. For the passion meal, the children took turns reading parts of the passion from the bible. As each section was read, we passed around a food that reminded us of that verse. For example, when Peter denied Jesus and the cock crowed 3 times, we passed pieces of chicken around for everyone.

After the passion meal, the students broke into their classes and rotated through the classrooms. They made a stations of the cross wheel and planted grass seeds to grow during the rest of lent. 

About Us

Welcome to All Saints Homeschool Co-op!  We are a Catholic homeschool co-op in Amarillo, Texas.  We meet weekly at a Catholic church to enrich our homeschool learning for 2 hours in the afternoon.  Our classes are divided by age and include Littles (age 3-Kindergarten), Elementary (1st-5th grade), and Youth (middle and high school ages).  We also have a nursery for children too young to attend whose parents are helping or teaching at the co-op.

Our Littles are offered a comprehensive curriculum covering letters, sight words, numbers, saints, memory work through bible verses and prayers and lots of movement, singing and games.  Children in this group need not know their letters, etc yet but do need to show an interest in learning.

Our Elementary group learns through weekly hands-on science experiments together and art projects that focus on the elements of art, such as line, texture, and value.  Next school year we hope to add Latin, geography, and presentations.  Our curriculum also includes an optional Catholic memory work element covering all aspects of learning.

The Youth group for this year has worked on building PiBots.  They have built individual robots and learned programming skills.  They are also working on the text "The Art of Argument".  Next year, we plan for this group to learn about Texas Aquatic science and writing though IEW (the Institute for Excellence in Writing).  They will possibly be adding Latin as well.

Every month we have liturgical celebrations planned by the families that bring us together to celebrate our Catholic Faith.  These opportunities help build our community and give the students time to socialize with their friends.

Robotics

The youth class has been working with the Pi-Bot robots this year. They built these robots themselves and are now learning to program them using Arduino language. Here are some pictures of one of the robots:

All Saints Feast Day Celebration

Field Trip to the Amarillo Food Bank Garden

In September, we took all the kids on a field trip to the food bank garden. We learned about how they use chickens to control bugs and keep their walkway weeds trimmed down. They told us about some of the plants and animals they raise there and how they conserve water. After the tour, all the children enjoyed petting and feeding the goats. We finished up the afternoon with some nature journaling. It was a fun way to spend a beautiful afternoon!
